Tell No Man

29 October 2014

"And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away; and saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter." (Mark 1:43-45)

There are two main reasons why I believe Jesus charged this man the way He did.

We can clearly see the first reason in our chosen text. Jesus knew that if His fame spread, there would be no way He could enter into any city by natural means because of the throng of people that would come to Him.

Secondly, Jesus did charge the man to go tell someone. He instructed him to go show the priests. He did this for two reasons. First of all, it was to obey the law of Moses regarding leprosy. But the main reason was to make an undeniable testimony to the priests leaders that the Messiah has come! They would be looking for the Messiah to be able to perform this miracle.
