Triumphant Savior

6 February 2015

Matthew quotes a portion of Isaiah 42 in his 12th chapter regarding Jesus. Here is the quote from Isaiah:

"Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law. β€œ(Isaiah 42:1-4)

One of the most comforting phrases of the gospel is found in this passage: β€œHe shall not fail."

Even in prophecy, the possibility of Jesus not finishing His work of redemption is denied!

Our salvation is secure in the will and power of God alone. It is not what God has done plus our confession. It is not what God has done plus our repentance. It is not what God has done plus our good works. It is not based on anything we have done or we would share in the glory of our salvation.

But God will not allow that!

"I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.β€œ(Isaiah 42:8)

The glory of God in salvation belongs to no image or man just Christ alone!
