The Source Of Love

30 January 2015

"Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. " (1st John 4:7-10)

The Bible clearly teaches that true love is a benevolent action of self sacrifice for the benefit of another person.

God showed the pattern for us in His Son, Jesus Christ. He loved us, therefore He gave His only begotten Son to die for us. He did not wait for others to love Him or be loveable. God loved His children first and He showed that love for them with action!

This desire to love others more than ourselves is given to us by God in the new birth. John tells us that a show of this kind of love is proof that Christ dwells in you.

This love was given irresistibly, therefore the desire and ability are there. It is the responsibility of each child of God to cultivate that love and bring it into action. We should be like God and seek to help those that are hard to love and truly need what we have!

Just think, if God had hesitated to show His love like we hesitate, what would become of us?
