For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.Romans 8:2
In the book Genesis, we find that God gave Adam a law. The consequence of breaking that law was death. Adam transgressed that law and he DIED. This is a simple principle that theologians have spent centuries trying to explain away.
What I mean by that is that theologians, who believe it is up to man to finish the work of salvation, teach that we are still under a law of sin and death.
By them, the gospel is presented as a choice. If you follow, you live with Jesus in heaven. If you do not follow, you die and go to hell and eternal torment. This is still a law of sin and death.
If we have been made free from the law of sin and death, how can we be subject to the consequence of death just like Adam was?
This clear logic in and of itself should cause us to reject or at least reconsider what it means to be under a decisional salvation paradigm.
Paul, however, speaks of another law – the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. This law has set us free from the pattern of sin and death. This LAW says that we are free. This LAW says that Jesus made us free because He paid the price for our sin and we WILL NOT pay it again.
Therefore, the gospel must not be presented under the old pattern of “sin and death” based on our decision or choice. The gospel is a declaration of the finished work of Jesus Christ. The gospel doesn’t give us the choice of freedom or death. The gospel tells us WE ARE FREE!!
