A Warning for “Wanna-Be” Preachers

Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:19-20

If you turn on your TV or radio, or if you listen to a podcast on the Internet, you will see and hear literally thousands of different men claiming to preach the gospel. And yet, so many of them have drastically different messages than the others. They cannot all be right!

Jesus warns those who would pervert the word of God for personal gain or for whatever reason. This passage actually condemns the Scribes and Pharisees because they not only lived in sin but taught others to do so as well.

If any man feels he has the call to preach, he should humbly and earnestly seek the Lord’s help to diligently study the word of God and not men’s doctrines.

My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

James 3:1
