Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

Matthew 15:12-14

Jesus’ disciples were very concerned that Jesus had offended the religious leaders once again. His answer shows that He was not concerned with what unbelievers thought about Him or His words, and we should not be concerned either.

Now, Jesus did not teach nor am I promoting the idea of being offensive on purpose or being ugly in the way we say things or present the gospel. In fact, our attitude should always be of joy and comfort, not threatening or ridicule (Isaiah 40:1-2). However, we should understand that if we speak the truth, some people will be offended.

So, what do we do when this happens?

We move on. We should see if for what it is and not dwell on it. Further, we should not let someone who is teaching error interfere with the truth. Just because someone is offended does not mean that we should stop spreading the truth. 

If we speak the truth in love and someone is offended, they are actually offended with God, not us. Therefore, let God handle it!

Ultimately, God will set the entire record straight. Until then, we should not be surprised when people who hate God spew hatred toward us. So, let us do as Jesus said, “Let them alone.” For one day, Jesus will be declared by all and the truth will prevail!

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
