Four-Part Harmony

Four-Part Harmony

When a Barbershop Quartet looks at a new piece of music, the notes that are written on the page are already in harmony. The quartet is not fixing the chords so that they will harmonize. The singer’s job is to interpret the score in such a way as to find the harmony that is already there and adjust the delivery so it sounds that way.

That is how it works with with the four gospels. We don’t need to try and make them fit together. The harmony is already there. We just need to discover how the Holy Spirit has already harmonized the four writings and then preach it that way.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

2nd Timothy 3:16-17

The four gospel writers were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write their personal accounts. This means that they are writing with their own understanding but God is the author. Therefore, everything they tell us is true.

In the coming months and years, we will attempt to discover the harmony of the four gospel accounts not create a harmony. If the Holy Spirit breathed these words to men, then He is the ultimate author and His words are already in harmony.

Our “Walk Through the Gospels” here at Mount Paran Primitive Baptist Church will be a lengthy journey but it will be a profitable one — for there is no greater subject to study than the Lord Jesus Christ!

May God bless us to learn more about the King of kings and our Great Redeemer.
