A Thankful Parent

A Thankful Parent

And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house. And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying, Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men. – Luke1:23-25

I do not typically like to discuss politics and Bible in the same breath but current political and entertainment actions force me to do so. There are those in Washington and Hollywood who brag about the killing of their unborn children. They say that it was key to their current success. They celebrate this freedom. Others, like myself mourn the loss of over 61 million preborn children to murder. Abortion is now the leading cause of death in the world.

Considering the horrible world in which we live today, let us look to the word of God and see how we should view our children…

We do not know the exact reason that Elisabeth secluded herself for five months after conception. It was most likely that she was living the vow of the Nazarite for her son. Whether or not this is so, we do know this, she was thankful. Her reproach had been taken away and she was receiving an abundant answer to prayer. Is the average American thankful for children anymore?

I would like to just compare and contrast a few Biblical statements with the words of former President, Barak Obama.

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. – Psalm 127:3

“I’ve got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.” – President Obama

God calls children a blessed heritage. President Obama says they are punishment.

“And we resolve to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, support maternal and child health, and continue to build safe and healthy communities for all our children. Because this is a country where everyone deserves the same freedom and opportunities to fulfill their dreams.” – President Obama

May I ask, Mr. President, what about the dreams of those 61 million murdered Americans?

These are not just the views of our former President. Unfortunately, a large portion of America has polluted its view of children and families in the same way. It used to be a reproach to not have children, now large families are mocked and ridiculed. It used to be that children were considered to be a blessing, now they are seen as a hindrance to freedom and the fulfillment of dreams.

Oh, that America could repent in nine months of silence just like Zacharias! Oh, that America could see what danger we bring upon ourselves by calling evil good and good evil.

While you may not agree with everything that President Trump says or does, we should recognize when our leaders are leading in a Godly direction:

“We must build a culture that cherishes the dignity and sanctity of innocent human life,”

“All children, born and unborn, are made in the holy image of God. Every life is sacred, and every soul is a precious gift from heaven.”

– President Donald Trump

I pray that each of us will return to the Biblical view of the family and of children.

Thank you Lord for my five blessings!

Thank you for Rebecca.

Thank you for Gracie.

Thank you for Jonah.

Thank you for. Luke.

Thank you for Asa.

And thank you for their mother and my bride of 28 years, Terri.

I am blessed.
