Jesus closes this lesson with a warning that, if we do not resolve the sin of anger in ourselves, we will have to deal with the consequences. God will not intervene to “fix” the mess we have made when our own anger is the cause.
Our own righteousness is no better than that of the Scribes and Pharisees. We need something much greater to justify us before a Holy God.
All of the descriptions of the elect child of God given by Jesus are evidences of the Spirit of God already dwelling inside the person.
Luke turns our focus from the law to Christ. The law points to the righteousness of God, so it is important. However, Jesus is the fulfillment of that law for us.
