Mark 15:40

We have another disciple named James. “James the Less” is called such either because he was younger or smaller in height. His younger brother was Judas who is called by several different names in the gospels – Lebbaeus whose surname was Thaddaeus, and Jude (the author of the book that bears his name.)

In 1^st Corinthians chapter 15, we find this James listed as one of the eyewitnesses of Jesus after His resurrection. Later we find him with Peter at the church at Jerusalem when Paul first joins them (Galatians 1:18-19).

From Acts 12:17, when Peter escapes from prison, and Acts 15:13-19, where James seems to make the final ruling at the council at Jerusalem, we may conclude that James could have been the first pastor at the Church at Jerusalem.

There is not much else known about this James other than tradition and church history not found in Scripture. Never-the-less, it is important to know that he was an Apostle, just like Peter and Paul.

We may be called to anonymous service to our Redeemer. Not many may know our name. Or if they do, they know very little about us, but …

Jesus knows us!

He knows our names, and we will be with Him just like the others for all eternity!
