Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.  It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

John 8:15-18

We are puny little humans. Most hate to admit it but it is true. No matter how intelligent a man becomes, he will never be able to stand equal with the wisdom and power of God.

Mankind has its five senses in order to judge things and make decisions. Basically, this means that everything we understand outside of ourselves, we understand based upon our observations of it and experiences with it. This may gain us a lot of information but it also leaves a gaping hole in our understanding of things. Why? Because we cannot judge the motivation of someone else based on our exterior observations.

But God is not limited in this way.

Consider what Paul says to the Hebrews:

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

Contrary to what some people think, this verse is not talking about the Bible, it is talking about Jesus. The next verse refers to the word of God as “his.” This is talking about Jesus!

Jesus can do many things that we cannot do because He is God. One of those things is to judge the motivation of a man’s action. He knows not only our thoughts but the intention behind our thoughts. Wow!

I have a scenario that I like to use to show how God (Jesus) can view things more truly than we can.

Let’s say you have two Boy Scouts and two little old ladies who need to cross the street. The first Scout, out of care, concern, and love for the first old lady, holds her hand and walks her across a busy street. The second Scout also walks an old lady across the street but He knows people are watching him and he will get recognition and merit badge. From the outside, both boys are doing a kind and loving thing. However, Jesus knows which one did it out of heart of faith and love.

We need to do our best to judge with righteous judgment and think charitably toward the actions of everyone. “Charity thinketh no evil.” (1st Corinthians 13:5d). This means we are certainly in no position to correctly judge the eternal standing of anyone! But it also means that Jesus knows who are His friends and who are His enemies.

Further, He knows when His friends have a less than honorable intention behind their words or actions!

Consider further from the book of Hebrews:

Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Hebrews 4:13

We are secured in the love of God by the finished work of Jesus Christ but let us not live in unthankfulness and disobedience. We still have to to “deal with God” here in time, and he expects us to be about HIS business not our own.
