Jesus wept. Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him! And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died? Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

John 11:35-38

In this scene, we get one of clearest examples of how Jesus  understands the pain and hurting of God’s people. And He doesn’t just understand it, He feels it, and He helps us.

The promise of the Messiah in Isaiah, Chapter 53 told us that Jesus would be a “man of sorrows” and “acquainted with grief.” We see that prophecy fulfilled when Jesus goes to raise Lazarus from the dead. And even though we sometimes “esteem Him not,” Jesus still “bears our griefs” and “carries our sorrows.”

Even when our closest friends and family do not understand, Jesus still does. And what’s even better is that He has done something about our sorrow and grief. He has put away the cause of all pain – sin.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5

That simple phrase “we are healed” is the most comforting concept found in scripture. It is not that we might be healed, but that we are healed. It is not that Jesus did part, and we must do the rest. WE ARE HEALED.

And yet, a large portion of the time we do not feel healed do we?

When we are in the middle of a trial or in trouble, we do not see that we are actually redeemed already. But just because we don’t see it yet, doesn’t mean that it is indeed a fact that we are redeemed.

Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Hebrews 2:8-9

We don’t see pain, suffering, and hardship put away yet, but we do see Jesus. Who rose victorious over death and shows that we will be with Him someday.

So while we sojourn here, let us remember to look to the One Who has already gained the victory.

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:15-16

He understands our hurt, and He can and does help.
