Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matthew 7:21-23
Most modern day Christians would be shocked if they actually read about Jesus from the Bible for themselves. Most think Jesus to be a pushover, who just hopes people will accept the work he did for them. This is far from the truth!
Our passage before us show one example of how Jesus is the Righteous Judge. Here, Jesus further describes the false prophets by showing us how bad they really are. When they stand before the Judge, they will claim all the things they had supposedly done in Jesus name.
They cry out the right words, but it is only an outward conformity and they never speak in faith. In fact, some like Judas were given abilities like the true disciples but they never act for the glory of God. Look closely at their “personal testimony.” They only claim what they have done, not what Jesus has done. They only claim to deserve heaven because of their actions no the mercy of God.
The big lesson to be learned is that there are some false prophets out there that are extremely dangerous. Their messages are not to be handled lightly for these men will be judged by Jesus Christ the Righteous!
On a similar note, this picture we have of Jesus as the Righteous Judge shows us that we have no outward action or confession that we can make that will merit us to live eternally with God. It is only by the mercy of God bestowed upon us in His sovereign will and pleasure that we will be with Him forever.
