Triumphal Feast • Ephesians 1:3-6 “Adoring God” pt. 2
This edition of Triumphal Feast concludes the message “Adoring God.” In this sermon, we find that the doctrines of grace (predestination, election, etc.) are the basis for our praise to God. God had pleasure in exhibiting His love toward us in these doctrines. Therefore, it should be our good pleasure to praise Him for it!
Triumphal Feast • Ephesians 1:3-6 “Adoring God” pt. 1
This weeks edition of Triumphal Feast continues in Ephesians chapter 1 where the Apostle Paul writes a doxology about the grace of God. Contrary to the contemporary praise songs sung in so many churches today, the Apostle doesn’t just say “God is blessed” and repeat that chorus multiple times. Paul says that God is blessed, and then he gives reasons why! The doctrines of election, predestination, justification, etc. are given as the basis for singing praise to God for His sovereign grace.
Faith & Testimony
Gospel faith is dependent upon the presence of the “measure of faith” given in the new birth. But the faith given in the new birth is independent of our expressions of gospel faith.
All in God’s Time
What if someone were to judge us at our lowest point? Let us make sure we offer them the same charity we would expect from them.
The Ultimate Rebuke
If Nicodemus does not understand depravity, why would he be looking for themes of restoration by mercy and grace?
Cause & Effect
Before we are born again, we are only natural creatures operating with natural understanding. We cannot understand spiritual things.
Who’s in Control?
If we were true to the understanding of our own depraved nature separate from the grace of God, we would only rejoice in this sovereign act of God! He did what we CANNOT do!
Water & Spirit
Jesus is not teaching that you have to be both physically born and spiritually born.
We Know
Simply put, the only way to see or enter into the kingdom of God is by a marvelous and irresistible act of grace performed on a person by the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit.
