We cannot bring ourselves to Christ, nor would we have the desire to come to Him. And, even if our loved ones desired that we be raised to spiritual life, they do not have the power to bring us to Christ.
Even if all men had the desire to be saved (which we know that fallen, depraved man does not), he does not have the ability to move toward Christ. Salvation begins and ends in the will and power of God.
Our own righteousness is no better than that of the Scribes and Pharisees. We need something much greater to justify us before a Holy God.
All of the descriptions of the elect child of God given by Jesus are evidences of the Spirit of God already dwelling inside the person.
