And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare [him] stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
Luke 7:14-15
There are many miracles of Jesus recorded in the four gospel accounts. He caused the blind to see. He caused the dumb to speak. He caused the lame to walk. Jesus did so many healings that John declares He could not write it all! In each of those situations the sick or wounded either came to Jesus themselves or someone else brought them to Jesus.
The resurrection accounts are different. In each case Jesus came to them.
Jesus came to Jairus’ daughter (Matthew 5; Luke 8).
Jesus came to Lazarus (John 11).
Jesus was alone when He raised from the dead.
Many saints were raised by Jesus after His resurrection.
In each of these accounts we find that Jesus is the only one active.
Jesus does the same thing raising us to spiritual life. We cannot bring ourselves to Christ, nor would we have the desire to come to Him. And, even if our loved ones desired that we be raised to spiritual life, they do not have the power to bring us to Christ.
Just like the bodily resurrections recorded in the gospels, every spiritual resurrection is entirely the act of Jesus. Jesus comes and we are alive!
