Satan “Doubles Down”

Satan “Doubles Down”

And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.

Mark 9:20

And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.

Luke 9:42

I want to begin today’s article with a few statements about Satan and his minions. First of all, Satan hates all human beings. It is foolish to worship him because he will simply use you and then destroy you. Next, Satan is not omniscient. He cannot read the thoughts and intents of the hearts of men like God can. However, he is very good at reading behavior. When men do something to move closer to God, it infuriates Satan and he doubles down his attacks. The verses before us today show this exact scenario.

Satan knows that Jesus can and will heal the child as soon as he is brought to Him. Satan knows he only has a little more time to hurt him so he gives it everything he has got in the last moments before deliverance comes.

Satan acts this way all the time. We need to be aware that as we draw closer to Christ, Satan is going to attack even harder. We should expect this and be ready for it. We do not want to allow Satan to discourage us from coming to Christ in times of need. We do not want to allow him to distract us from our walk as disciples of Christ.

Satan knows that deliverance in Christ is a sure promise. We need to understand that as deeply as he does.

When temptation comes, we would do well to face our troubles with scripture.

Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Revelation 12:12

Satan’s time is limited. So he is going to be more and more fierce.

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:39

Satan’s power and results are limited. He cannot take us away from God.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

2nd Timothy 1:7

Fear of being taken away from God is lie that Satan uses all the time. He cannot take us away from God but he makes us think he can. We should face this with the power of faith and trust in Christ. We should have a sound mind that knows Satan hates us but Jesus wins, — every single time.
