Take Heed

Take Heed

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

Matthew 24:4

And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:

Mark 13:5

And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived:

Luke 21:8a

Frankly, I think one of the main things that Jesus is warning about here is to not be deceived by those misusing the gospel and the return of Jesus Christ as a scare tactic to try to get people to obey and follow their poor definition of the way of salvation!

Jesus never intended the gospel or the news of His return to be used in this way. The message of the gospel to God’s people is one of comfort.

PERIOD.

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

Isaiah 40:1

In the Olivet Discourse there are some things that apply to the end times as well as other things that apply specifically to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. Any time that Jesus gives a sign or warning and there is something the disciples are supposed to do, He clearly spells it out. Most of the warnings were to flee to the mountains out of Jerusalem before its destruction. Such warnings would have little or no meaning if the entire world is about to burn with a fervent heat (2nd Peter 3:10-12)!

This discourse should serve as a reminder that there are certain events that will happen before our Lord comes and gets us, but fear not! Be not afraid but live in hope!

Salvation is by grace, plus nothing! And…

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:37-39

Take heed that no man scare you concerning these things. Look forward to the return of your Redeemer, and pray that He comes quickly.
